Obagi, Questions, Twitter Contest

15 Sep

Hey guys! Hope you all are having a good week. I haven’t had much to report on the Obagi. It’s been sorta the same. Peeling in the morning, peeling at night. I had a family emergency yesterday morning so I ran out without washing the Tretinoin off from the night before. It was fine though. I didn’t get home till about 5pm when I washed it off. I didn’t put anything else on till about 9pm before bed but I skipped the Tretinoin because I’m still doing one day on and one day off. I peeled A LOT this morning. But my skin is very soft and smooth. And even a little glowy. I still see the acne scars I’m trying to get rid off, although my mom swears they look less deep.

Since I don’t have that much to report, I figure I’ll answer a question or two that you all have asked on Twitter or through email.

1) Laura V. asks: I love your blog! I’ve been wanting to try Obagi forever but I’ve been too afraid to. In your last blog you said you were using this Neutragena eye cream. I am 24. How old are you and at wat age do you think I should start using an eye cream?

Ans. Hi Laura! Thanks for the love! I am 26 and I would suggest that you start using an eye cream. You don’t want to wait till you have wrinkles to start battling them. Prevention is always the better way to go. I like the Neutrogena one because I have sensitive skin and Neutrogena has always worked well for me.

2) Toni S asks: U sed u have a beauty adviser. Who is this? Where did u find her?

Ans. Hi Toni. My esthetician is at Sona Medspa. I’m not sure where you live but you probably have a Sona or something similar close by. If you live in the DFW area, I go to the Sona in Plano and my esthetician’s name is Holly B. She’s wonderful and has great skin. She’s the one who got me on the Obagi and she’s been very helpful and supportive.

Twitter Contest
So I’m thinking we can do a Twitter contest. Rules would be fairly simple. I will give away an eyeshadow palette with 88 shimmer eyeshadow by Coastal Scents pictured below.

I think we can start this Friday, just for the day. 3 things to win:
1) Follow me on Twitter – PeppermntPolish
2) Give me a Follow Friday and mention this post. So for those of you who don’t know you need to tweet some that says something like “#FF @PeppermntPolish to win a Coastal Scent Shimmer Eyeshadow palette”

We’ll do it this Friday. I will post a reminder on Friday morning.

Day 3 of Obagi NuDerm

6 Sep

I used the Tretinoin both last night and the night before and I’m starting to see some light peeling today. My face also looks pretty red like I have a bit of a sunburn. There was some mild burning to go with the sunburnt look but nothing unbearable.

I have to say, I do NOT like the sunscreen that comes with the Obagi box set. It is not sheer and doesn’t blend well into my skin after I put all the other stuff on. So it seems like it sits on top of my skin making me look white and pasty. I have a yellowish brown skin tone so it doesn’t work for me but maybe if you’ve got a pale white skin tone it would be ok? I’m gonna call my skin consultant tomorrow and ask her if I can use my trusty Neutrogena sunscreen instead (it goes on sheer).

Obagi NuDerm

5 Sep

I have to admit, I’ve been thinking about starting this beauty blog for awhile but I manage a few other blogs and I just haven’t had enough motivation to get to this one until now. The reason I finally came around is due to the fact that I really wanted to document my experience with Obagi NuDerm.

For those of you unfamiliar with this product, it is a skin care system that promises to reverse sun damage, hyper pigmentation, acne scarring, wrinkles, etc. I know that sounds like it’s promising a lot but I did a lot of research into it and people who have used it have been very happy with the results so at my skin care adviser’s injunction, I decided to give it a try.

Obagi makes more than one system but we’re talking about NuDerm here specifically. It’s a system of 8 products.

Obagi NuDerm

The picture only shows the 7 that are included in the big box that it comes in. Lets start with going over those.

1) The first big bottle is a cleanser. You use it like any other facial cleanser or soap:
-Wet face and hands
-Massage a pea size of cleanser onto your face
-Rinse and dab dry with a towel.

2) The second big bottle is a toner.
-Apply a quarter’s size to a cotton round (I prefer rounds to cotton balls because I think they waste less product) and rub gently all over face and feather down neck.

3) The third bottle is something called Clear. It has the texture of a lotion and claims to lighten dark spot on your skin like age spots or acne scars.
-You apply about half a gram (make a line from the tip of your forefinger to the first nuckle line).
-Dab spot on your face to ensure that it’s evenly distributed and then massage in all over, feathering down your neck.

4) The fourth bottle is the Exoderm which is an exfoliater.
-Apply just like the Clear, half a gram.

5) The fifth bottle is the blender. This one is mixed with something called Tretinoin which isn’t included in the box. It comes separately in a tube and you may know it as Retin-A. I believe it’s a derivative of Vitamin A and is the product that causes the most irritation to skin.
-You mix a 1/2 gram of blender with a 1/2 gram of Tretinoin (mix both on fingers) then dab on to skin.
-Massage onto whole face, feathering down the neck.

6) The sixth bottle is called Sunfader and I believe it lightens your complexion.
-Apply just like Clear.

7) The seventh and last bottle is a suncreen.
-Apply just like Clear or any other suncreen.

You used 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 in the mornings skipping the blender and the Tretinoin. After you cleanse, you just layer everything on. If you give it a couple of minutes to set, you can apply make up right on top of it.

You use 1,2,3,4, and 5 at nighttime, skipping the suncreen and the sunfader. You also cleanse and layer on.

My understanding is, that it strips away the damaged dermis layer and helps the skin grow new layers. It also promotes collagen growth and adds a healthy glow. I hear you don’t even have to wear makeup once you’re done with the system.

My only concern is, that the Tretinoin is supposed to cause a lot of redness and peeling of the skin. I started it last night and haven’t really seen any yet but I’m sure I will. I just hope it’s not unbearable. I will keep you all posted on the status and let you know if it works.
